Winter Wrap Up

Well the season that never was is finally coming to an end. We had a very late start to winter, but we made the best of it. Thankfully we had a good March and early April. The snow started falling hard here in Tahoe. Good thing too because we got the bulk of our snow for the entire season right at the end. In fact one of the best powder days of the season was on April Fools’ Day, no joke.

Chas GuldemondThe Eternal team riders made the best of what snow we had. Chas Guldemond had a banger competitive season. He made his mark by being crowned 2012 World Snowboard Champion Slopestyle in Oslo. This was a big win as the World Championships are only held every four years. Chas picked up top spot at the 2012 Toyota Big Air and 2012 Burton Canadian Open. Chas has also started working out and training with the US Snowboard team in anticipation of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. It has been a busy year for Chas in fact he is just coming back home after filming with Standard Films.

Andrew BrewerAndrew Brewer has been non-stop filming with Technine and FMF for what I am sure will be another super progressive part. He started off the season gracing the cover of Transworld, as well as our own 2012 catalog. We are also excited for Brewer as he is getting an entire pro model line from Technine including snowboards and outerwear. But just because the snow is melting does not mean he is done, Brewer will be a coaching at the all new Camp Woodward Tahoe located at Boreal Mountain here in Tahoe, with the first ever summer snowboard camp at Boreal scheduled for June.

So now it is time to dust off the skateboard, bike, golf clubs, surfboard, or roller-blades, because the days are long and the weather is warm. And by the way if you need to look good this summer we still carry all kinds of the latest and greatest summer gear and styley skateboard shoes from DC, DVS, Vans, Emerica, Lakai and more.

World Champion Chas Guldemond!

Chas Guldemond TTR World Champion

Eternal’s very own Chas Guldemond was crowned TTR Slopestyle World Champion in Oslo, Norway this past weekend. The TTR World Snowboard Championships were held for the first time this year and will not be held again for three more years. “That’s the first time I’ve landed a switch back 1260..” Chas on his winning run. Chas through down a pretty heavy winning run which started with a  frontside blunt 270 out to a frontside boardslide 450 out, switch backside 1260, backside 1080, tailpress to backside 180 and ended with a huge Cab 1260. Check the winning run out here.

This was a big win for Chas. Chas’ contest season got off to a slow start. He had some board issues at the X Games and was unable to make the finals. But he kept his head in the game and headed to Calgary for the 5 Star Burton Canadian Open where he turned the page for his contest season and took home the win and a big confidence boost. This is his winning run.

Chas then headed straight to Sapporo for the Toyota Big Air in the Sapporo Dome where he battled through the rounds taking home 2nd place in front of wild crowd of 35,000 screaming Japanese fans.

CONGRATULATIONS CHAS!! All Hale The World Champ!!!!!!!!

Our First Premiere Was a Success!

Last Friday September, 30 was Eternal’s first, in a series of four snowboard movie premieres at The Freight House District in Reno, NV. We kicked the evening off with a preseason Box Jam to get everyone into the right frame of mind, after spending the week in 90 degree temperatures. A thunder storm blew through, but it looked to me that everyone riding the box were just happy to have a snowboard on their feet and snow on the ground… or shaved ice anyways.

There were about 10-14 guys throwing nose presses, lip slides and I even saw some front flips out going down. I am sure it was a good warm up for everyone, especially since there is snow in the forecast.

A Packed Freight House

A Packed Freight House

After the Box Jam we packed The Freight House full to watch “The Shred Remains” the latest movie from the Rome Snowboard team.  The movie has more of a throwback feel of a crew getting together, making movies and having fun. There are no shots that would require 2 helicopters and an airplane here. It’s a good movie to pop in, get pumped, and go ride.

Of course we did some raffling and product toss. We were also lucky enough to get some posters, pictures and whatever else you had signed by Rome’s very own LNP, Jonny Lazz, Marie Hurcal, and Wade Goddi, in addition to Eternal team members Chas Guldemond and Andrew Brewer.

Then we partied into the night. Good movie, good friends, good times, that about sums it up.

A special thanks go out to: Ryan Reidel (Freight House District); Kristian Walters; Grady Skelton (Rome SDS); Ryan Roberts and DJ; and of course all of the kids who shredded and came out to get pumped up about snowboarding!

Next Friday October, 7th we will be premiering Capita’s movie “Defenders of Awesome” at The Freight House once again. See you there!

We are excited to have Eternal Team member Chas Guldemond join us at The Freight House District to sign some Neff posters on Friday, September 30th for our premiere of the Rome movie “The Shred Remains.” Chas also gave us an update of what he has been up to all summer:

“This summer has been the best summer I have had in a really long time. I feel like I have done every activity that was ever invented. It started out with a lot of shredding first in mammoth for two weeks and then ended in Mt hood for three weeks. It was so fun shredding mammoth unbound park and hanging out with the kids at High Cascade was epic! During those five weeks I filmed the last two episodes of Dropping in with Chas and they came out great!

After all the shred I wanted to just enjoy the heat of the summer. I had bought a boat this past winter so it was time to get a lot of use out of it! My wife and I went on camping trips with friends and had endless wakeskate and wakeboard sessions. Like every summer my dirt bikes got dirty pretty often,  every day I got free time at home I ripped to the top of Peavine peak and romped around the sick trails! I must say that my favorite thing about the whole summer was making so many new friends. They have introduced me to so awesome new hobbies and to be quite honest I’m not ready for it to end.. I’m having to much fun!

Nevertheless  The snowboard season is right around the corner and I’m going to the gym 6 days a week and skating as much as possible to get a strong as I can for the winter. Two more weeks to go then I’m back on snow! To get day to day updates check out my  Facebook page at  facebook.com/chuckg.tv or follow me on twitter at @chasguldemond.

Take care and see you on the slopes!”

“Droppin in with Chas” Episode # 8

Well this season held on for what seemed like forever and Eternal team rider Chas Guldemond took advantage. He headed down to Mammoth Mountain, where they weren’t putting away their snowboard gear till the 4th of July, to film another “Droppin in with Chas” episode. Even had time to have a skate session at Brothers Skate Park, then head back home to Tahoe for one last go at Boreal. Take a look see.

IOC Finally Approves Slopstyle for 2014 Olympics

After a long deliberation, the International Olympic Committee, has now made snowboard slopestyle an official Olympic sport. This comes as some very welcome news to Olympic hopeful and Eternal team rider, Chas Guldemond. In fact upon getting this news Chas will be heading to Park City to meet with the head of US Snowboarding and to get a personalized workout program from the trainers at their world class facility. Then straight to Mt. Hood for the rest of July to coach his signature session at HCSC. This past season was incredible for Chas. He won practically everything that he entered including 1st Place 2011 European X Games Slopestyle, 1st Place 2011 Grand Prix Slopestyle, 1st Place 2011 Toyota Big Air, 1st Place 2011 Arctic Challenge, 1st Place 2011 Stuttgart Big Air. We are sending him nothing but good vibes as he will no-doubt have a hard 2 years of training leading up to the 2014 Games.

The recognition of the slopestyle event by the IOC gives a lot of validity to the sport as well as the athletes who risk it all for the sport. Everyone involved hopes to see the Olymipc slopstyle become a great success and help propel the disapline much as the 1998 Nagano games did for halfpipe. To read more about the decision and see some pics and quotes from Chas check out this ESPN article.
